MODULE 5: Training and Consultancy
5.1 The Requirement
The process of establishing a DRS programme is complex; policies, procedures, patient pathways, security and patient consent arrangements,
invitation and bookings processes, screening and grading arrangements and training of key individuals must all be addressed.
The scope of the task should not be underestimated. e should also be supported
by a medical director/medical directorate or advisory body and have an element of external quality assurance.
5.2 The Issues
Although there is a NSC web-site available and some limited networks are operational, assistance at the right level is
not always available. Training key members of the team and the provision of consultancy services are required to support
the establishment of DRS programmes and resolve issues and weaknesses.
5.3 The Solution
Although the approach to establishing a particular programme will be different in different locations, there are a set
of common processes and issues that would benefit from the expertise of 1st Retinal Screen's senior management.
We have made arrangements with The Diabetes Eye Fund to enhance their DRS training courses. Training courses will continue
to be provided by The Diabetes Eye Fund, a charitable organisation; however 1st Retinal Screen will provide the course
administration; enhance the training materials and assist in extending the range of courses available. 1st Retinal Screen
is also sponsoring the training courses resulting in a reduction in the cost to NHS participants.
1st Retinal Screen can provide access to the following Training Courses:
- Diabetic Retinopathy Screening and Grading Course -
