The Screening Procedure
Screening will take approximately 30-40 minutes and will be carried out by an accredited Retinal Screener. The screening procedure will be discussed with the patient and informed consent obtained before the screening process begins. The Screener will undertake a visual acuity test and record the results, before administering special drops into each eye in order to dilated the pupils. Eye Drops will only be used where there are no contraindications. Once the patient's eyes are dilated the Retinal Screener will take two photographs of each eye using a digital camera and transfer the images to the image capture software. The images will be reviewed at this stage in order to identify any patients requiring an urgent referral.
