Inviting Patients
Once the Register has been developed, a Prior Notification List (PNL) is produced for review by the practice, and it is for the practice to confirm those patients who are to be invited for screening. This PNL process is dynamic and operates over NHSnet enabling members of the Practice to control the status of all their patients within the programme from their desktop, at any time. This facility gives the practice the option to invite patients for screening immediately or in the month they are due for their next screening. Patients can also be postponed, suspended or removed from the programme.
This service will generate invitation letters for all those patients that the Practice has confirmed are suitable for screening. The letters are issued with a patient information leaflet explaining the screening programme. These leaflets are currently available in English and five ethnic minority languages (additional languages can be added as and when required). The invitation will provide details of the booking centre from which they can choose an appointment on a date and time and at a location that is convenient to them to attend. Once an appointment has been made an appointment confirmation letter will be issued to the patient and an option is available for the patient to be reminded by SMS Text messaging. This service has the facility to generate up to two reminder letters should the patients not respond to their original invitation. Patients will normally be invited to attend annually for their retinal screening.
